Kevin Barona’s Classroom Guidelines and Consequences

{Alls rules will be introduced on the first day of school}
-All rules will be communicated to the students, made into a big visual poster, as well as a typed list for each student to keep.
o List of rules:
 Talking: No talking when I am giving instructions or developing a class discussion. Also, if there are announcements or anyone speaking over the intercom there will be no talking. If I have chosen a student to speak they are also the only one allowed to speak for that given moment. I will allow talking during group work, class discussion, and some individual work (Unless stated otherwise).
 There will be NO food, drinks (Unless it’s water), or edible items in my class. If brought to class, I will give students two choices: 1. Eat or drink outside my room; if bell rings and you are still outside you are tardy. 2. Thrown away.
 Preparation: You must come to class every day prepared! For example: Having your homework for the specific day. Bringing all of your materials to participate such as pencils/pens, books, journals, etc. Full engagement: NO SLEEPING, no head down, and no working on other things in my class.
 Use of Technology: You are only allowed to use your phones, IPads, iPods, etc. for school use only. I will give you directions on when you are allowed to use them, any other time I see them being used I will assume you are doing something you’re not supposed to. NO texting, talking on the phone, and/or getting on social media.
 Bathroom breaks: ONE AT A TIME! When you need to go to the bathroom I want you to raise your hand and give me the “Shaka” or “Hang-loose” hand gesture and I will nod my head for you to go. Make sure not forget the bathroom pass.
 Seating arrangements: THERE WILL BE A SEATING CHART! I will also change seating arrangements 2-3 times throughout the term. Students must always stay seated unless told otherwise.
 There will be NO foul language including sexual, drug, or offensive topics in my class! There will be NO fighting, calling each other names, and/or gossiping about another student. There will be NO cheating. We will treat each other as well as ourselves with respect.
 IF YOU CAN’T DO IT OUTSIDE MY CLASSROOM THEN YOU CAN’T DO IT IN MY CLASSROOM. (School procedures come first)
{After thoroughly communicating rules to students, give students time to ask any appropriate questions for clarification. If no questions are asked I assume they understand all of their expectations}
-For students that don’t seem to understand their expectations in my class, this will have to lead to a one-on-one discussion. I will implement a change of ‘behavior plan’ sheet for students to fill out when their actions continue after the first mistake. It will be called the “Come On, Really?” sheet. They will fill out the sheet and give it to me. They will meet me after class to discuss their answers. We will discuss together if this needs to be something their parent needs to hear about. If a student continues to be given “Come on, Really?” sheets then parent will be contacted immediately without discussion. Office referrals may be the next option as well.

“Come On, Really?”

Name:

1. What did you do wrong to receive this?

2. Why did you do this?

3. What will help you not do this again in the future?

4. Do we need to call your parents? Why or why not?

Don’t Forget To Meet
Me After Class!!!

• Consequences of rules:
o When caught talking when you aren’t allowed to:
o When caught eating/drinking in the class:
o When caught using technology when they’re not allowed to, and/or when caught doing something they’re not suppose to with their phones, iPads, etc.:
o When caught unprepared for class:
o When caught roaming around the classroom, and or not sitting in their own seat.
o When caught gossiping
The First Time: The Second Time: The Third Time:
I will only verbally tell them to stop. For example: “You are not supposed to be talking during this time remember, please stop.” Student will then receive their warning. For example: “This is the second time I have to tell you to stop talking. This is your first and last warning.” Student will receive the “Come On, Really?” sheet to fill out and speak to me after class.

o When caught using foul language and/or calling another student a bad name:
 Student will immediately receive a first and last warning, and then if heard for a second time they will receive a “Come on, Really?” sheet.
o When caught fighting:
 If caught hitting each other, those involved will be immediately escorted to the office.
 If caught in a verbal fight: I will try to squash anything that’s going on immediately, away from the other students. If continued then immediately sent to the office.
o When caught cheating:
 Student will receive an incomplete for the grade as well as immediately receiving a “Come on, Really” sheet.

Documentation: I will keep all “Come on, Really?” sheets in a binder (Sectioning each student) to view for my own sake as well for parents viewing as well. This will help the parent get a better understanding of their child’s actions. Also, I will be able to view at any given time if a student has received multiple “Come on, Really” sheets.
Parental Contact: I will send an e-mail as well as a take home sheet for the students to give to their parents to discover the best communication method for the parent.
